Stroke or 'Brain Attack'

The Brain needs a big blood supply. If this is interrupted or damaged, brain tissue dies and major dysfunction can occur.

Stroke is the leading cause of adult disability in the UK. Many strokes could be averted by proper prevention and correction of risk factors.

Stroke and TIAs can occur when:

The vessels supplying the brain clog up, just like the coronary arteries

bullet

A blood clot forms and then breaks off and their is embolism from the heart (eg if atrial fibrillation) or major vessels

bullet

A vessel ruptures causing a bleed
